Community Workshop

The Balancing Act

Presented by Emile Mulder, PhD.

Join us as we discuss the things that fall by the wayside when parenting a child with special needs. How can we be parents, family members, romantic partners and individuals?

Parenting responsibilities and hassles – We’ll tell you what you already know: parenting a child with a disability is hard work! Parents will be invited to share their own hassles and how disability impacts their lives.

Strain on the family – We discuss all the things that families do together, ways that disabilities may get in the way of those activities, and ways to keep those activities in your lives.

Romantic partners – Remember dates? We discuss the importance of maintaining your romantic relationship and strategies to keep this part of your life alive.

Self – care – It’s natural to put your own needs last when your family needs you. We discuss how this can affect your family, and ways that you can balance your own needs with those of your family.
